SAFETY

We trust in God’s sovereignty and goodness over all aspects of camp. We pray often, asking God to protect our students, adults, the community members we interact with, the buildings we are in, and more! We have a designated prayer team that spends time in prayer, both before and during the week of camp.

Since Flower City Work Camp is a missions trip, we pray that students will have the opportunity to stretch themselves and grow in their independence. Our goal is to provide a safe environment where students can focus on building friendships, growing in their faith, and enjoying camp.

We have a security team that provides oversight at Home Base 24/7 during the week of camp. Our security team maintains a presence throughout the entire camp campus, with team members positioned across the grounds and regularly moving throughout the property. High activity areas, parking areas, and buildings receive additional attention, while the team maintains awareness of the campus as a whole. Team members work to identify students and volunteers while remaining attentive to visitors and anyone who may not belong in the camp environment.

Our security team includes current and former local and federal law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and fire rescue professionals. Team members are trained in camp specific procedures, including our Youth Protection Policies, and work closely with camp leadership to help maintain a safe environment for everyone.

Some of our other safety measures include:

  • We have a medical team that provides oversight 24/7 during the week of camp.
  • All adult volunteers must complete a background check and agree to follow our Youth Protection Policy. This provides information about safe boundaries for interactions during all aspects of camp.
  • Our teams carefully screen all locations where our teens serve. This includes the safety of the area, the safety of projects and materials used, and more. We consult with the Rochester Police Department and listen carefully to their recommendations.
  • There is adult oversight during all parts of camp: site leaders oversee the work during the day, overnight leaders support students during evening programs and overnights, and MANY MANY more adults in other roles.
