MEDICAL TEAM

The FCWC Medical Team operates 24-hours a day during the week of Work Camp and is staffed by trained professionals (LPN, RN, PA and/or MD) who volunteer to staff this area.  All campers with health conditions will be supported and cared for.  But, the Medical Team are volunteers, so we ask that you partner with us by providing the best information possible when applying to let us know what student needs there will be while at Work Camp.  And, students must be knowledgeable about the medication they take, their treatment and in some cases the technology associated with their treatment.

2027 Medical Form

A completed and approved 2027 Medical Authorization Form is required of all campers

  • Sections 1 and 2 MUST be completed by the Health Care Professional (HCP), not the parent/guardian.
  • The HCP must certify that a Physical Examination has been completed between March 1, 2026 and the present.
  • Please do not submit an incomplete form or a form with an expired physical exam date unless the form is also accompanied by a summary of a Physical exam completed within the required dates. If your HCP is unable to complete an exam before the deadline, consider scheduling an exam with an Urgent Care facility.
  • Make sure the HCP initials the area for any independent use and carry medications as applicable.
  • Section 3 must be completed by a parent/guardian.
  • Scan or email completed medical forms to medical@flowercityworkcamp.org by February 14, 2027.
  • The form will be reviewed by our Medical Team for approval before camp. The team will contact you with questions or required corrections before camp.

Contact medical.director@flowercityworkcamp.org with any questions or concerns.

Medication Administration

The Medical Team will store prescribed medications in a locked cabinet and will administer prescription and PRN/as-needed medications throughout the week of Work Camp. These will be administered according to information provided in the Health & Doctor’s Authorization Form, consistent with dosing instructions on the prescription bottles.

All medications must be provided in their original prescription containers. Place containers in a zip-lock bag labeled with the student’s name. Medications required to be refrigerated will be stored accordingly.

If special instructions exist that differ from the dosing instructions on the prescription bottle, be sure those instructions are included in the Health & Doctor’s Authorization Form.

Students should come to the Nurses Station for their prescribed dose of medication at the appointed time. If they do not present themselves for their dose, the Medical Team will work with Home Base to locate where they are and will make sure the dose is administered. For medications to be taken during the day (not morning or evening), medications will be released to a site leader who will ensure the dose is administered properly and on time.

With the exception of an Epi Pen (epinephrine), albuterol MDI and specific migraine medication, no students will be allowed to be in possession of any prescription or as-needed/PRN medication at Work Camp.

Medications must be picked up at dismissal on Friday of Work Camp. If you do not pick up your medications, you run the risk that they may be discarded.

Illness

Students should report any illness to the Nurses Station.  The Medical Team is able to provide cough drops or pain relievers to help alleviate symptoms.

If a student experiences a fever and/or vomiting, their parents will be contacted to come get the student from Work Camp.  Students who leave Work Camp for any reason, including illness, may not return later in the week.

Treatment of Injuries

Each service team has access to a first aid kit to treat simple injuries at their site.  All injuries are reported to the Medical Team to be logged and for potential escalation if warranted.  Parents will be contacted of any injuries requiring additional treatment beyond that which the Medical Team can provide on-site.
