FOR PARENTS
Flower City Work Camp is a local mission trip experience in your student’s own community. But, we treat it as if they are taking off for the deepest, darkest Peru. Our goal is to grow their connection to God and with God through the spiritual discipline of serving others.
Your student will stay at a host church for the duration of week, where they will eat their meals, shower and participate in large group worship sessions. Some students will sleep at a secured annex facility nearby that they will be escorted to and from. They will not have access to their cell phones or other electronic devices. But, they will be surrounded by a dedicated and caring staff at all times to ensure their safety, meet their needs and build into their lives.
Students attending Work Camp will be placed on a team with adult leaders, a student shepherd and a mix of other students from different churches and grade levels that they will be serving with for the week. They will participate in morning worship and devotions, a midday devotion with lunch and a huge worship and teaching event each night after dinner (plus, some fun and games – it is a camp after all). Finally, we provide them the opportunity to sleep each night.
We understand that for some students this will be their first overnight away from home. As a parent you may want to still have them come home to stay overnight, but our Work Camp rules state that once a student leaves Work Camp they are not able to return. Between their youth leaders attending with them, the overnight leaders in each sleeping room, their team leaders out on their sites, the student shepherd mentoring them and their peers serving along with them they will have adequate support to make it through the week. If necessary, they can call home from Home Base to check in. Visitors are allowed each evening during the large group session, and if necessary this would be a good check in time for you with your student.
What we see through the week of Work Camp is tremendous growth across many areas for the students – making new friends, building resilience, learning new skills and gaining a new sense of God’s call on their life. The experience of Work Camp is designed specifically to maximize these opportunities to grow.

Student Application – the online application process is designed for students to initiate on their own after creating an account with their own email address. At the mid-point of the application they should ask you to complete the final pages in the application regarding their medical information and to sign the release. If your student doesn’t have an email account yet, they may use yours, but the application still needs to be filled out as if it were the student applying on their own (in their name).
